Audience Perspectives on Harmful and Offensive Media Content

The Audience Perspectives on Harmful and Offensive Media Content research examines the attitudes of adults and children regarding potentially harmful or offensive content on television, radio, cinema, home entertainment, and video-on-demand services. Views were collected via an online survey of adults, and focus group discussions with adults and children. The research was funded by Coimisiún na Meán and the Irish Film Classification Office, and delivered in collaboration with the Ombudsman for Children’s Office.

On the digital campaign trail: Election candidates’ online experiences in the 2024 elections research report examines the experiences of those who participated in the 2024 local and general elections in Ireland.
The report is based on comprehensive surveys and in-depth qualitative interviews with candidates from both elections.
Digital News Report Ireland 2025

Now in its eleventh year, the annual Digital News Report by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford is the largest ongoing comparative study of news consumption in the world. The Irish Report is sponsored by Coimisiún na Meán and produced by the DCU Institute for Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo). The global Reuters Digital News Report is commissioned by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford. Here in Ireland, researchers from the FuJo Institute at Dublin City University analyse the data that is specific to Ireland and to our selected comparative markets (the UK, the US and Europe).
Ceol na mBan: Women and Music in Sound Broadcasting, 2025

The Ceol na mBan: Women and Music in Sound Broadcasting report presents the findings of research into women and music on radio. A mixed methods approach was adopted including a desk-based review of the literature and policy, participant interviews, and monitoring of programme content across a sample of radio stations. The report, which was launched on 23 April 2024, includes a short executive summary and separate chapters on the findings from each of the research methods.
Irish Language in Media Survey Findings, 2024

Coimisiún na Meán presents the results of an Irish Language in Media Survey. This survey was conducted to inform a wider review, currently underway, of the provision of Irish language services and content across media. Conducted between June and July 2024, the survey sought the perspectives of approximately 1,200 people from national and Gaeltacht audiences, aged 18+, and examined public engagement, preferences, and perceptions regarding the relevance and effectiveness of Irish language media including television, radio, print media, and online media.
Digital News Report Ireland, 2024

Research for the Digital News Report is undertaken by the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford and is the largest ongoing comparative study of news consumption in the world. The Irish data forms part of the larger survey, which in 2024 was conducted in 47 markets. Ireland’s participation is facilitated by Coimisiún na Meán and analysis of the Irish data was provided in 2024 by researchers from the DCU Institute for Future Media, Democracy and Society (FuJo).
