The Digital Regulators Group (DRG) welcomes the publication of ‘Digital Ireland – Connecting our People, Securing our Future’, the National Digital & AI Strategy 2030. The members of the DRG – Coimisiún na Meán, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), the Data Protection Commission (DPC) and the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) – strongly support the Strategy’s ambition to position Ireland as a trusted, future‑focused digital regulatory hub.
The DRG particularly welcomes the Government’s commitment to strengthening the DRG, enhancing regulatory coordination, and in particular, ensuring that Ireland’s digital regulators are well‑resourced to meet the challenges presented in the digital space. Improved cooperation, streamlined regulatory processes and stronger cross‑agency engagement are important tools to provide a strong regulatory environment for people and businesses alike.
The DRG looks forward to continued collaboration across regulators and government in advancing a fair digital economy.
Commenting on the Strategy, Jeremy Godfrey, Chairperson of Coimisiún na Meán notes that “our interconnected society requires digital rules that protect fundamental rights, uphold the interests of consumers and provide clarity for businesses so they can deliver beneficial innovation. This Strategy commits to giving regulators the resources and powers we need, and to give us the tools and support we need to continue to work together effectively. That will enable us to ensure the rules are followed and to provide a coherent regulatory environment that underpins efficiency and economic growth and delivers benefits for everyone.
“The National Digital & AI Strategy recognises that strong, coordinated, and well-resourced digital regulation is essential to delivering the benefits of a fair digital economy”, says Brian McHugh, Chairperson of the CCPC. “The CCPC welcomes the Government’s commitment to the Digital Regulators Group, and we look forward to continuing our collaborative work to ensure Ireland remains a leader in safe, competitive and consumer-focused digital markets.
“The important role of cybersecurity and resilient digital infrastructure is reflected in the new National Digital & AI Strategy”, says Garrett Blaney, Commissioner & Chair of ComReg. “As digital regulators, we seek to protect consumers while encouraging innovation and investment – objectives captured in the title theme ‘Connecting our People, Securing our Future’. ComReg supports the Government’s ambition to place Ireland on a better footing to absorb future challenges to our critical digital infrastructure, including via the Digital Regulatory Hub and Centre of Expertise.
“Ireland’s National Digital & AI Strategy 2030 acknowledges that delivering a predictable, efficient and streamlined regulatory environment is predicated on well-resourced digital regulators”, says Dr. Des Hogan, Chair and Commissioner for Data Protection of DPC. “The DPC welcomes the Strategy’s recognition of the Digital Regulators Group and the importance of deepening cross-agency cooperation across the digital regulatory landscape. This collaborative approach will help foster responsible innovation while safeguarding individuals’ rights and maintaining public trust in emerging technologies.
