CSO Pilot Programme
As required by the Online Safety and Media Regulation (OSMR) Act 2022, we plan to introduce a scheme under which organisations are nominated by us for the purpose of notifying us of matters relevant to our online safety functions under the OSMR.
We engage regularly with stakeholders, including civil society organisations (CSOs), industry, and the public, to inform our regulatory, policy, and funding activities.
Engagement with CSOs is a key part of this work. CSOs provide valuable insights and research relevant to the Online Safety Framework (OSF), which holds online platforms accountable for protecting people, particularly children, from harm online. The OSF is underpinned by the Digital Services Act, the Terrorist Content Online Regulation, and the Online Safety and Media Regulation Act.
To strengthen this engagement, we have launched a CSO Pilot Programme. The programme provides a structured process for receiving and using CSO submissions to inform online safety regulation and policy, and with a view to informing the development of the statutory Nominated Bodies Scheme. Participation offers CSOs an opportunity to influence regulatory development, highlight systemic issues, and help shape future engagement with Coimisiún na Meán.
The Pilot Programme will run for 18 months, from 2 June 2026 to 2 December 2027.
